What Is Search Engine Marketing?

What Is Search Engine Marketing?

by Brent Sweet

It's in our genes, we're driven to seek. We 'hunt' for food, homes, partners, jobs and lately - with the advent of the Internet - information.

Even in the early years of the Internet, before it evolved to include Web browsers, there were text based search engines. Back then they had funny names like Archie, and Gopher. It was only later, when the graphical browser was invented, that searching became much easier and accessible for the rest of us.

The concept behind Search Engine Marketing (SEM) is quite simple: when a consumer or business person searches the Web through either a text box or by clicking through a directory hierarchy, they are in "hunt mode." This mode is unique because it indicates that the person is looking for information. Marketers understand this "hunt mode" means the searcher is probably somewhere in the buying cycle, researching a product or service to fill an immediate or future need.

It's this 'timeliness' that makes search engine results some of the best sources of targeted traffic, whether that traffic originates from "organic" unpaid search listings or paid (sponsor) advertising listings.

To leverage the power of targeted traffic, marketers must understand how to effectively use both paid and organic SEM and what they can expect each methodology to achieve.

Search engine traffic is unique because:

Presenting your message within the search engine traffic is non-intrusive. The searching is not interrupted and your message "arrives" just when the searcher is seeking knowledge or a solution.

Search engine traffic results from a fixed inventory of searches. To truly qualify as search engine traffic, the search must be one that the searcher initiated as a search, either by clicking a search link or by entering a search query.

Search engine traffic originates from a voluntary, audience-driven search. This means the visitors arriving from a search have selected your listing and chosen the words that match.

Natural or "Organic" search engine marketing combines the best practices of technology, usability, copy/linguistics and online PR. This is because many search engines base their relevancy algorithms on a combination of the text they see on a page or site, combined with external elements such as links and user behaviours/preferences.

These days, Marketers can buy text-link search results on all of the top search sites. The popularity of paid search results advertising can be attributed to the search engines' need for alternative revenue sources, marketers' increasing requests for search results traffic, and the high value of the traffic generated through search results.

Unpaid (otherwise known as organic or algorithmic) search engine traffic was once fairly easy to get - but this was before there were more than 3 billion documents competing for attention of the search engine databases!

Some marketers believe there are "tricks" which will improve the relevancy of their indexed sites. Using tricks to fool the search engines is dangerous because many of these 'tricks' result in negative relevance penalties (they actually lower your ranking score!) as the engines take measures to punish search marketers who try and manipulate their systems. Remember, site and IP Blacklists do exist and 'tricks' are one sure-fire way to get yourself added.

The good news is there are many compelling and legitimate organic search engine optimizations. Some of the best ones focus on content - the mainstay of the Internet. Particular efforts should be focused on copy (the words), the site design (it's an artful balance between what the computerized search engine needs and what the human searcher wants), HTML formatting, and other technical considerations.

Online marketing is a proven and valuable part of an overall integrated marketing campaign. And it all begins by understanding the precise keywords and search terms your ideal prospect is using to search the Internet. Find these and you unlock the potential of the Internet. - 20490

Seo and one way links

by reklilinks

Search Engine Optimization companies, more commonly SEOs, are companies who specialze in the practice of analyzing and editing your Website architecture to make it more accessible by the search engine robots and spiders that index your Website's content.

One way links are very powerful. They will boost your pagerank and rankings. One way links are given more priority by search engines since it looks more natural.

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the science of increasing traffic to your Web site by improving the internal and external factors influencing ranking in search results. It is a major part of Internet marketing. Search engine optimization is part marketing and part science; including programming, coding, content optimization, copy writing, linking and ad purchases.

One of the best way of building one way links is by distributing articles on various content sites and article directories. One way links are very important to your website?s success. In fact, if you have a website and you don?t have any one way links then you will not have much success with the search engines.

Search engine optimization is not what it used to be. It takes real effort to create content that will be palatable to both customers and search engines. Search Engine Optimization is a process to make your web pages search engine friendly, implementing the meta tags and keywords, content optimization and finally working on link building to gain quality links.

Link exchanges usually operate on a 2:1 ratio, such that for every two times a member shows a second member's banner advertisement, that second member displays the first member's banner advertisement. This page impressions:credits ratio is the exchange rate . Link Exchange Easy: Power google page rank and website link popularity boost tool.

SEO companies know as much as anyone can know about how search engines work and they use that knowledge to optimize your website's structure and content to ultimately increase your page rank. Search Engine Optimization also known as Ranking is a gradual process as we all know and at the end of the time frame agreed upon, we guarantee top ranking results.

Search engine optimization (sometimes known as SEO) is the process of enhancing your websites ability to become listed within the natural listings within a search engine. The natural listings are the listings or advertisements you find on the left-hand side of the results pages you receive when searching online.

One way links are the most valuable links a website can acquire because they act as votes from one site to another. Similar to a traditional election when the candidate with the most votes wins, each inbound link or vote increases the credibility of the recipient website and raises the probability the recipient website will rank well / win in search engines. - 20490

NextGenLinks - Good Link Building Program

by David Fillaminion

[I:0:G]NextGenLinks is a new contextual linking service to improve your ranking in the search engines. This new services differs from most of it's competitors in that it provides contextual "deep" linking to every page on your site. This is much better for SEO and looks much more natural to search engines so you avoid the over-optimization penalties.

The new NextGenLinks service allows you a complete level of control over every link you both receive and send to others in the system. Outbound links from each page are limited to five to prevent too much pagerank leaving your pages. You can also automate the inbound link building which is the default if you do not want to control who links to you.

One thing I had trouble with during the testing was thier spider did not find all the pages on my wordpress site. Not sure where the bug is, but since the URL's are uploaded using a CSV file it was easy enough to make my own list. The minor issues will be fixed in time I'm sure.

The interaction and customer service from Charles Kassotis the owner has been amazing so far. From what I saw he replies quickly and answers people questions. I have not had the chance to test the rest of his Help Desk yet.

The basic process after joining is to register your domains, add a small piece of code to your domains, spider your domains, optionally edit and upload a CSV file of urls and keywords, then wait for inbound backlinks and approve outbound links. A fast and easy system considering all thing, though the inbound links did seem to be added not so quickly, but I'm sure that will improve as more users are joined to the system.

I have hopes NextGenLinks will only continue to improve in the future yet am pleased with what I see from it so far. Contextual and deep linking is the way of the future since it is so close to manual natural link building that Google, Yahoo, and MSN will love it. - 20490

One way links and google

by rekli

Google has made his very own democratic voting system in which one way links are seen as positive votes for an internet site. It's straightforward to see that there are a few benefits in taking one way links. Google uses many different elements to determine page rank. Links are extremely important to Google and the more links you have pointing to your website the better off you are.

One way links are a definite way to improve your search engine rankings. Reciprocal links are easier to obtain in comparison to one way links. One way links.3. The link page indexed with PR1 or higher by Google, no redirects, javascript links, hidden links, or other unethical job, only direct static links.5. One way links are external links from another website that point directly to any web page on your website and without any reciprocal link back. These types of links are more valuable on the whole than reciprocal links, and a quality one way link from a related website is considered a huge vote of confidence towards your website content to search engines.

Google sees the one way links as the best. That is you are linking to a page on www and its not linking back to you. Google will evaluate how many links are pointing towards your site, compared with how many outbound links you have. It can have a negative effect if you have a lot more outbound links than inbound ones. Google also have a Sitemap tool, which allows them a direct path to visiting a site on a regular basis. This method is typically used for websites that are updated frequently.

Google does not value that kind of link very much at all anymore. Google wants to see one-way links (or at least what it believes are one-way links). Googles Maile Ohye is telling everybody what most SEO experts have been telling us for years. If you want your website to get on the first page of Googles search engines then you need lots of unique content and inbounds links. Google continues to grow its massive brain over time, as things move forward natural linking and interactive/resource content will be all that counts.
